Puppy Yoga was a great Success!!
What a great fundraiser! Everyone had a blast and SSCFOA raised $1,700 to help the animals of San Saba County. Thank you to Daneen Scott (the most amazing Instructor) for donating her time to teach not one but two classes, Albert and Kay Stowell for donating their wonderful building for us to use, Soggy Dog Salon for donating all of the nail trims, all of the Volunteers, and everyone who participated! It was a wonderful event!

Volunteer Coordinator
Help organize and coordinate our amazing volunteer team! This flexible role involves managing volunteer schedules and communications. Only requires a few hours per month and can be done entirely from home.

Be the first point of contact for animals needing our help. Help process and coordinate new animal intakes, working remotely with our network of fosters and rescuers. Minimal time commitment required. You do not need to foster.

Join our creative team in planning and organizing fundraising events and campaigns. Share your ideas and help raise essential funds for our furry friends. Flexible commitment with remote meetings.
All positions can be managed from home on your own schedule. Even a few hours a week makes a huge difference in helping local animals in need!

URGENT: COLD WEATHER PET SAFETY ALERT!
Temperatures are dropping to 21° and wetness is moving in tomorrow! Please keep your furry family members safe during this cold snap!
Best option: Bring all pets indoors! Your garage, laundry room, or bathroom can work if needed.
If pets MUST stay outside:
Provide a sturdy, elevated shelter with straw bedding (blankets can freeze!)
Face shelter opening away from wind
Use thick plastic flaps over doorway to block wind
Check water frequently – it will freeze!
Consider a pet-safe heated water bowl
Increase food portions – pets burn more calories staying warm
Bang on your hood before starting your car – cats often seek warmth under vehicles
Remember: If it’s too cold for you, it’s too cold for them!
Senior pets, short-haired breeds, and puppies/kittens are especially vulnerable to cold. Please help spread the word and keep an eye out for strays who might need help!

What to do if you can’t afford your pet

Do you need help with pet food, boarding or veterinary care? You’re not alone—here’s what to do.
Visit pethelpfinder.org. Search for food pantries and supplies, financially friendly veterinary services, boarding options and local animal welfare groups.
Contact local food pantries. Search nearby pantries at foodfinder.us. Many can provide food assistance for pets, as well.
Talk to a veterinarian. Explain your financial limitations and ask for advice. They may be able to suggest a cost-effective treatment plan, discuss a weekly or monthly payment plan, or refer you to a clinic or nearby veterinary college with lower fees.
Contact local animal welfare groups. Many organizations offer pet food assistance or temporary housing for pets while their owners get back on their feet, and some have low-cost clinics.
Research other options.
- Petsofthehomeless.org has a database of pet assistance organizations, as well as case managers who can advise you on your individual needs.
- Banfieldfoundation.org has lists of state and national resources (click on the Resources tab)
- Waggle.org helps you raise funds for pets in need of emergency care and pays veterinarians directly.
- Carecredit.com offers credit cards specifically for health care expenses, including pet care. Ask your veterinarian if they accept Care Credit. (Be sure to understand the repayment terms to avoid triggering an expensive, retroactive interest fee.)
- Scratchpay.com offers payment plan options for veterinary and other health-related services. Ask your veterinarian if they accept Scratchpay.
- Nextdoor.com can connect you with neighbors who may have pet food to spare.
