ANIMAL KENNEL TECHNICIAN – PART-TIME
San Saba County Friends of Animals is seeking a dependable, compassionate, and hardworking part-time Animal Kennel Technician to help care for the dogs and cats at our animal shelter.

- Part-time position
- Must be available to work weekends and holidays
- Morning and evening shifts may be required
- Reliable and punctual attendance is essential
Job Responsibilities
- Feed and provide fresh water to dogs and cats
- Clean and sanitize dog kennels, cat enclosures, food bowls, and animal-care areas
- Remove animal waste and keep kennels clean and comfortable
- Scoop and change litter boxes
- Walk dogs and provide exercise, enrichment, and socialization
- Monitor animals for signs of illness, injury, stress, or changes in behavior
- Safely handle healthy, sick, injured, frightened, or energetic animals
- Administer medications as directed and accurately document treatments
- Follow all cleaning, sanitation, disease-prevention, and animal-handling procedures
- Wash, dry, and organize animal bedding and laundry
- Restock food, cleaning supplies, and other animal-care items
- Assist with incoming animals, adoptions, and animal transportation when needed
- Provide friendly customer service to adopters, volunteers, visitors, and members of the public
- Answer phones, complete paperwork, enter information into records, and assist with other basic office duties
- Keep accurate records regarding feeding, medications, health concerns, and animal behavior
- Assist coworkers and volunteers with daily shelter operations
- Perform other duties as assigned
Requirements
- Must be at least 18 years old
- Must genuinely enjoy working with both dogs and cats
- Must be comfortable caring for sick, injured, and potentially contagious animals
- Must be able to safely lift and carry at least 50 pounds
- Must be able to stand, walk, bend, kneel, reach, and perform physical work for extended periods
- Must be able to work indoors and outdoors in different weather conditions
- Must be willing and able to complete and pass all required training classes
- Must follow instructions, safety procedures, and medication directions carefully
- Must be dependable, responsible, patient, and able to work independently
- Must communicate professionally with staff, volunteers, and the public
- Must have reliable transportation and arrive on time for scheduled shifts
- Previous animal-care, veterinary, boarding, rescue, or shelter experience is helpful but not required
Please note: This position involves frequent cleaning, exposure to animal waste, strong odors, loud barking, animal hair, cleaning chemicals, and animals with illnesses or behavioral challenges.
